Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 September 2026

HomeOS Lab ("we", "us", "the site") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit homeoslab.com, why, and what choices you have.

Who we are

HomeOS Lab is an independent smart-home publication operated by HomeOS Lab. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@homeoslab.com or via our contact page.

What we collect

Information you give us.

  • Newsletter / membership: if you subscribe, we store the email address you provide (and, if you create a member account, your name). This is handled by our publishing platform, Ghost, and our email delivery provider our email delivery provider.
  • Contact messages: if you email us or use the contact form, we receive the details you send.

Information collected automatically.

  • Basic server logs / analytics. We use Ghost's built-in, privacy-friendly web analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, approximate region, referrer, device type). This built-in analytics does not use tracking cookies and does not follow you across other websites.
  • Cookies / local storage. Our publishing platform (Ghost) sets a small number of functional cookies — for example, to keep you signed in if you create a member account. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Some pages contain affiliate links (e.g. Amazon Associates). When you click one, the destination retailer may set its own cookies to attribute a purchase to us. We do not receive your payment or personal purchase details — only the retailer's aggregate commission reporting. See our full Affiliate Disclosure.

How we use information

  • To send the newsletter/content you asked for.
  • To respond to your messages.
  • To measure and improve the site in aggregate.
  • To operate affiliate relationships (aggregate attribution only).

We do not sell your personal information.

We rely on your consent (newsletter), our legitimate interest (aggregate analytics, running the site securely), and contract/legitimate interest (responding to you). You can withdraw newsletter consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email.

Sharing

We share data only with the service providers that run the site on our behalf — our host/publishing platform (self-hosted Ghost), email provider (our service provider), and analytics provider (our service provider) — under their own privacy terms. We may disclose information if required by law.

Data retention

We keep newsletter/member data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is retained per our provider's default retention (our provider's standard retention period).

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. under GDPR/UK GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to opt out of sale/sharing (we do not sell). To exercise any right, email hello@homeoslab.com. You can also unsubscribe from emails directly via any email's footer.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in the European Union and the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
